History:	Construction began in 1954, with the last sections opening in 1971. Sometime in the next few years, a segment of I-81 between Exits 16A and 29 will be relocated to the current I-481 alignment as the elevated section of I-81 in downtown Syracuse is expected to be demolished and replaced with a grade level boulevard. The project is scheduled to begin in late 2022 and last about five years.
