History:





* The western terminus was originally in Buffalo, but was extended west along the Lake Erie shore in the early 1930's.
* In the 1950's, NY 5 was slated to be relocated to a newly built expressway from downtown Syracuse to Auburn. Only the section from Camillus to Fairmount was built.
* US 20/NY 5 in Canandaigua was relocated from West Ave. and S. Main St. to a newly built bypass in 1981.
