* NY 16 originally entered New York near Portville along what is now NY 305. Once in Portville, NY 16 duplexed with NY 17 (now NY 417) into Olean where it would meet up with today's routing. * NY 16 was relocated off of a 2 mile section of Olean Rd. when the Aurora Expressway (NY 400) was built in the 1970's. This section is still maintained by NYSDOT at Referencee Route 951V. |

NY 16 at NY 417 in downtown Olean as a signalized intersection. In 2015, NY 16, or North Union Street, was rebuilt as part of an urban renewal project. The result was a conversion of a four lane undivided road into a two lane divided road, and the construction of about a half dozen roundabouts, including one at this intersection.
