History:

Present day NY 204 was assigned in 1962 and was the designation for the Airport Expressway, which was built in the 1960s and was supposed to have stretched from I-490 to I-390. However, due to NIMBYs, only the section between I-490 and NY 33A was built. The stub interchange at NY 33A remained until 2001 when it was reconfigured into a regular "T" intersection. When NY 47's alignment was moved to present day NY 390 and I-390 in the early 1970s, NY 204 was extended eastward along its present alignment to NY 383 in Rochester. The eastern end would be pared back to the Rochester city line in the 1980s and to I-390 in 2017.

extension to Plymouth Ave. (NY 383) in Rochester.
