NY 204 was originally assigned to the Albany Turnpike between Malden Bridge (NY 66) and East Chatham (NY 295) and NY 295 to the Massachusetts line in Columbia County and later extended to Nassau where US 20 and NY 203 currently intersect. The section east of East Chatham was replaced with an extended NY 295 in the late 1930s and eliminated altogether in the early 1940s.
