History:

The second NY 2 alignment was assigned in 1939 to replace the original NY 15 designation, a move made to eliminate numerical duplication with the US 15 designation which had been extended into New York at that time. This incarnation of NY 2 was short lived as, in 1942, it would swap designations with the NY 96 alignment in Rensselaer County to allow NY 2 to match MA 2 at the Massachusetts state line.
Replaced By: NY 96
Current Designations:

NY 96 (Owego-Candor, Ithaca-Rochester)
NY 96B (Candor-Ithaca)
