History: |
NY 73's original alignment stretched from Tahawus (NY 28N) to Ticonderoga (NY 9N/NY 22) following Essex CR 84, US 9, and present day NY 74. The Tahawus-North Hudson section was decommissioned in 1936. In 1952, the eastern end was extended three miles to the ferry landing and the western end was extended north and west to Lake Placid via its current alignment, replacing the NY 86A designation. In 1973, NY 73's overlap with US 9 was eliminated and the segment east of Severance (I-87) was renumbered as NY 74 to match VT 74 on the Vermont side of the ferry. |
Recommendation: |
As part of our recommendation to eliminate the NY 86 designation due to the presence of I-86 in the Southern Tier, we recommend extending the NY 73 designation west from Lake Placid along the current NY 86 alignment to NY 30 in Paul Smiths. |
