NY 495 was the designation for much of the Long Island Expressway from 1962 until 1983, when the LIE was given the I-495 designation (Some NY 495 reassurance markers were still posted as late as 1986). In 1989, NY 495 resurfaced as it replaced the I-495 designation that had been assigned to the Lincoln Tunnel.
