The original alignment of NY 306 began at the New Jersey line and followed Saddle River Rd. (Rockland CR 73) to NY 306's current southern terminus at NY 59. The route also extended north to US 9W/US 202 in Tompkins Cove via Call Hollow Rd., Cedar Flats Rd., and Mott Farm Rd. The northern extension was decommissioned in the 1940s when the Palisades Interstate Parkway was built. The southern extension was decommissioned in 1962.
