NY 136 was originally assigned to Banksville, Round Hill, and Bedford-Banksville Roads in North Castle, Westchester County. It is unknown when exactly the original designation was removed, however NY 136 was moved to its current location in 1938, starting at Winter St. (then NY 40 and later NY 405). NY 136 would be extended west to US 4 in 1980.
